National Historic Landscape Characterisation
Locus Consulting has been commissioned to support the creation of a National Historic Landscape Characterisation dataset.
Historic Landscape Characterisation (HLC) is a process of assessing, recording and understanding historic landscapes across the country. These have been created on a county-by-county basis, resulting in a highly dispersed and varied resource.
Natural England, in partnership with Historic England and the Association of Local Government Archaeological Officers (ALGAO) has commissioned a project looking to unify these datasets into a single National HLC, to help inform and monitor land management.
exeGesIS Spatial Data Management, an experienced and respected environment and heritage GIS consultancy, secured the contract. They have subcontracted Locus Consulting to provide our expert insights into the creation and application of landscape characterisation resources.
